Dr Christelle Nguyen, MD, PhD, is a clinician scientist and Associate Professor of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (PRM) at the Faculté de Médecine Paris Descartes, Université de Paris.

She obtained her MD in 2010 at the Faculté de Médecine Paris Pierre and Marie Curie and holds a PhD in cellular biology obtained in 2015 at the Université Paris Diderot. After a 2-year Visiting Academic position at the Institute For Molecular Bioscience at the University of Queensland in Australia (Associate Professor Mathias François lab), she joined Professor François Rannou lab in 2014, then Professor Frédéric Charbonnier lab in 2019 (INSERM UMR 1124, Faculté des Sciences Fondamentales et Biomédicales, Université de Paris). She is also consultant in the department of PRM at Cochin hospital since 2014.

She is currently leading translational research projects aiming at: 1/ better understanding molecular mechanisms involved in intervertebral disc and articular cartilage diseases, using original in vitro and in vivo models, 2/ assessing the efficacy and safety of targeted non-pharmacological interventions in musculoskeletal disorders including osteoarthritis, intervertebral disc diseases and systemic sclerosis, and 3/ developing instruments to measure disability specific to these conditions.

Dr Christelle Nguyen is author of more than 60 articles in peer-reviewed journals. Her research projects have raised 1,900 k€ fundings to date. She has been awarded the Young Investigator Prize from the Bettencourt Schueller Foundation in 2012. She is member of the French Societies of PRM (SOFMER) and of Rheumatology (SFR), of the Scleroderma Patient-centered Intervention Network (SPIN) and of the experts group on physical activity at the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM). She is Editorial Board member for the medical journal PLOS Medicine.
